Claudiu's position is at the Mathematical Institute (MI) of Leiden University, where he received a Leiden-Huygens fellowship to work on plant development. Claudiu will spend part of his time at the Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica and at the Institute for Biology at Leiden University. Claudiu studied Applied Computational Mathematics at the University of Bremen, Germany, and received a Masters degree in Mathematical Modeling and Scientific Computing from the University of Oxford.  The title of Claudiu's project is Pattern formation in plant tissue through interaction of structure, transport and growth. His supervisors are Sander Hille (MI/Leiden), Remko Offringa (IBL/Leiden), and Roeland Merks (MI/Leiden and CWI/Amsterdam).
